ALTERNATIVES

Contemplative Healing

“ I used to smoke around 60 to 70 cigarettes a day. Though I wanted to leave the habit I didn’t know how to? In fact I had so many other ailments because of my smoking that to overcome all those I used to end up with harmful side effects,” expressed Arun Zaveri, a former Mumbai businessman.

Zaveri is a changed man today. He doesn’t touch cigarettes and has not done so for more than two decades now. After having smoked like a chimney for more than 20 years of his life.

Asked the secret behind his de-addiction, he proudly gives credit to PM (Preksha Meditation).

Preksha in simple terms means, “to see in oneself”. It is to perceive and realize the subtlest aspects of one’s own consciousness. This technique basically is the sum of perception of oneself. For example it is the sum of perception of breath, body, psychic colors and psychic centers.

“It is the process by which we do the transmutation,” explained Arun Zaveri, speaking from his home and training center at Matunga.

Preksha Meditation includes meditation exercises for attitudinal change, behavioral modification and integrated development of personality. Its main aim is to purify the deeper levels of existence. Regular practice strengthens our immunity system. It helps build up resistance against aging, pollution, chemical toxins, cough and cold, viruses, disease and many others.

The best advantage of this form of alternative therapy is that age is no bar. Any one and everyone can benefit from this form of meditation. Only he/she needs to be willing for it.

In fact Arun Zaveri started smoking due to peer pressure to show his college-mates that he too was a grown up person. And with times he was an addict.

According to Zaveri Preksha Meditation is the best method to overcome any addiction problems even the ones as serious as heroin and brown sugar addictions.

“Recently when we were touring 13 states of America we found that children as young as 10 to 11 too were smoking. The parents found this method very good and came forward to get more details from us.” He said.

Others who come to him are stressed out people. “Especially for people of the metro cities where taking each and every step means stress, Preksha Meditation is greatly helpful,” he clarified.

Zaveri who is a qualified engineer, accepting this mode of improvement for lifestyle wasn’t easy. He had to be convinced to believe it. About 20 years ago he happened to meet Acharya Tulsi and Acharya Mahaprajna, Jain monks at Jodhpur who have been studying and conducting research on the teachings of Lord Mahavira and formulating the same for the common man. He was so impressed by their teachings that he decided to try it out on his own self. And since then has not looked back.

“And believe me when I tell you it took me only three days to get rid of my two decades-old smoking habit,” he said.

He has even taught the methods of Preksha Meditation to his wife Mayuri and conducts a 10 day course for people suffering from different ailments. Before starting the training program, he describes step by step, why one should go for this meditation. The husband wife duo have recorded a batch of seven cassettes which enables one to undertake PM step by step in the confines of one’s home, following the initial training session.

“People who lack confidence in themselves will develop a newer personality and confidence as they get to better emotional and mental health,” explained the couple.
